Our Story

Why ByteBack Arcade
exists.

We're not selling access to games. We're rebuilding the feeling of the arcade — the people, the competition, the spontaneous games with strangers who became teammates, rivals, and sometimes friends.

Remember when gaming meant playing together?

There was something about the arcades of the 80s and 90s that gaming never quite replaced. You'd be standing at a cabinet when some random kid walked up, dropped a coin into Player 2 — and suddenly you were a team.

Or maybe they weren't joining you at all. Maybe they were there to take you on. You didn't know their username. You hadn't arranged a game. You just played.

Then, slowly, it disappeared. The arcades closed. The cabinets vanished. Gaming moved into our homes and eventually online. We gained incredible technology — but we lost something along the way: that spontaneous feeling of meeting someone, sharing a game, competing, cooperating, and maybe even making a new friend.

ByteBack Arcade is bringing that feeling back.

Meet people. Find teammates. Make rivals. Join community rooms. Talk on mic. Take on challenges. Earn XP. Climb the leaderboards. Compete in eligible community challenges for prizes and rewards. Become part of the arcade.

Retro gaming used to be inherently social.

People stood around cabinets. Someone could walk up and become Player 2. People competed with strangers. People cooperated with strangers. You could make a rival — or even a friend — without arranging anything beforehand.

Technology improved enormously, but much of that spontaneous, shared arcade experience disappeared.

ByteBack Arcade is trying to recreate that feeling for the internet generation — not by pretending it's still 1992, but by combining retro gaming with modern community features:

Emulation & Game Compatibility

ByteBack Arcade is built to make classic gaming accessible directly through your web browser.

Because ByteBack Arcade uses browser-based emulation across many different gaming systems, compatibility can occasionally vary between individual games. A title that works perfectly through a dedicated emulator or specialist gaming setup may behave differently when running inside a web browser.

This is particularly relevant to more demanding systems such as the Sega Saturn, where the browser emulator currently has known audio limitations. Saturn games may therefore have audio disabled where necessary while remaining fully playable.

You may occasionally encounter a game that does not load correctly, has graphical or control issues, or behaves differently from the original hardware. This does not necessarily mean the game itself is faulty; it can be a limitation of the browser, device or emulation core being used.

If you find a game that isn't working as expected, please report it in the ByteBack Support community room. We'll investigate it and, where possible, improve the configuration, replace the affected title with a compatible version, or provide an alternative.
